It has loads of goodies in it, feta, dried tomatoes, hard cheese (no clue which one - with is kind of silly for a Dutch cheesehead like I am), bacon, salad leaves, nuts, pumpkin seeds, balsamic vinigar, olive oil and some peper. Really delicious!

<![CDATA[Carrots, carrots, carrots...]]>Sat, 02 Mar 2013 18:29:04 GMThttp://dutchhomestead.weebly.com/kitchen-blog/carrots-carrots-carrots
I harvested my carrots today. Some were surprisingly big and beautiful in shape and form like this one.
Others were, well...how shall I put it...not mothers' finest specimens :-). With a big smile on my face I pulled up these ridiculously shaped carrots, but the smile disappeared as soon as I thought about how much more work it takes to clean these oddly shaped versions. O well, they still taste great.
It turned out that there were more left in the ground then I had expected. So I shall save some in a basket between layers of sand.

<![CDATA[Beetroot with carrots]]>Fri, 22 Feb 2013 18:20:04 GMThttp://dutchhomestead.weebly.com/kitchen-blog/beetroot-with-carrots
The beets that I sowed last year remained very tiny. I don't know why they remained so small. Perhaps there were not enough nutrients in the ground or it rained to much. I left them in the ground hoping that they would grow a little more. But today I couldn't wait any longer, so I made a lovely beetroot and carrot salad, both harvested out of my own garden. What a rich feeling it is to still eat from the garden in February!

I made a really tasty apple salad with sweet apples, raisins, nuts, curry powder and yoghurt dressing. Super tasty for in the wither sun.

<![CDATA[Salads, you got to love them]]>Mon, 16 Apr 2012 17:45:13 GMThttp://dutchhomestead.weebly.com/kitchen-blog/salads-you-got-to-love-them
Oh, what a blessing it is to have the first salad leaves on your plate. Especially those young leaves which are tender and tasty. As a beginner vegetable gardener last year, I found it a pity to take leaves of of these tiny plants, but now I now better. They shall grow on and deliver an abundance no matter what. So a few leaves in early spring won't harm them.
And I do have got loads...
